I recently came across "rainbow revisions" which is a way to help students revise for sentence fluency. Google rainbow revisions and click the first link. Students use colored pencils to underline sentences that start with nouns or The... or adjectives etc. If the student has many sentences underlined in the same color, they need to try a different sentence type. I haven't tried it with my students yet. I use a similar idea for editing. Circle all end punctuation in red, circle all capitals in organge, circle words you think are misspelled in green, etc. This has been very helpful for the students to self-edit. And the best part is it leaves evidence of editing that I can see.
