Post: Lucy Calkins vs 6 Traits

    Posted by ShellyB on 11/19/08

Went to an interview where I was asked if I had used the
Lucy Calkins method. I've heard the name before, but most
schools here use 6 Traits. I'm a bit confused by some of
    my research on the web.
    Questions:
    1. Is Calkins the same as Writer's Workshop?
    2. Does the Calkins method emphasize ONLY nonfiction/
"real life" writing? (If so, I'd have to disagree with her
on that. I like children to experience all the genres.)
3.Lastly, Can you mesh Calkins writing with 6 Traits ideas?
    Basic programming differences?
Your comments are appreciated. I need to write my thank
you letter today and I wanted to followup on this topic.
    Thanks.
