Hi, Rebecca:
Category 220/320 is Social Studies and includes anthropology. The
high school curriculum in DoDDS for SS is world geography, world
history, US history, and US government. High schools also offer
social studies electives for students such as economics, street law,
psychology, sociology, and other courses. Anthropology is/has been
offered at some schools, but rarely.
Just so you know, social studies is not a high demand area and that
goes for both stateside and DOD teaching. Everyone and their
grandmother has a social studies certification. If you can add
another cert that would help greatly. Your German certification would
definitely help, but I would look into adding some more.
Having a Master's degree doesn't seem to make much difference in
getting hired. Just my observation. Many DoDDS teachers come in with
just a BA or BA+units and then work on getting a Master's degree.
You also must be willing to go anywhere if offered a position with
DoDDS. Jobs in Europe, especially Germany, England, and Italy, are
few and far between as most teachers stay put there. Most vacancies
are in Japan or Korea. But overall competition is tough and luck
plays a big part in landing a job with DoDDS.
