Post: Considering becoming DoDEA teacher - need advice
I'm interested in teaching for the DoDEA program. I'm
looking into getting a teaching certification and would
like to find out more about salary, living conditions,
benefits, etc., and if the DoD has a student loan repayment
program.
Quick Background: I graduated a few years ago with degrees
in journalism and Spanish (no teaching degrees), with a
career mostly focused on communications-- media relations,
etc. I'm currently a writer (contractor) for the federal
govt.
I've worked with kids for about 10 years as a camp
counselor and substitute teacher. I've always wanted to
live/work abroad and figure DoDEA is a great chance to do
that. Since I'm not certified I need to go back to school.
How are you satisfied with your careers and the resources
provided by the DoD? I hear many teachers are underpaid in
the U.S. and am curious if it's the same in DoD Land.
Thanks for helping me explore this career option.
