I hope it's a good sign, but it might just be standard procedure. My email read something to the effect of "we are calling your references and you'll hear from us if you are selected to interview" ..... which I was.... so we'll see! Long story short... references were called BEFORE my interview.

Interesting. I know mine were not called before hand but that was a few years ago.
I've had my luck with DoDDS (getting a job and in the transfer round) so hopefully some will rub off for you!
