I found DI was a pretty big time commitment (I was the membership
coordinator for our school). Appraisers have to go to a three hour
training session and then be available all day to give feedback at the
tournament. Team managers facilitate meetings, which increase in frequency
and length during the weeks before the event.
I heard the split with OM was because too many people felt like adults had
their hands in "student" projects. In DI, everyone signs contracts for
no "interference" from anyone who is not on the team. In other words, all
ideas, construction, performance, scripts, and revision come from the
student team members.
