I agree with her about the Pledge. Now that she knows there are neo-Nazis (and
does she know the Nazi Party still exists?) what does she think about that?
Is she interested in the other extreme atrocities or only the Holocaust? The
American slave trade is thought to have taken 20 million lives. The genocide of
Native Americans?
Even if not, I've never run into another child who developed an interest in the
Holocaust at such a young age. I would never suggest any child is a 'freak' but
in my 20 years of teaching gifted children, she strikes me as unique among them.
When teachers plan curriculum and choose reading matter, even in gifted classes
we have to cast the wide net. This thread spoke to Anne Frank being
inappropriate for young children and though I don't doubt what you say your
daughter aside, I would still agree that Anne Frank is not for young children.
