Re: want to differentiate for gifted students
Posted by Jamie in MO on 8/20/08

Have your principal order a copy of Susan Winebrenner's book
Teaching Gifted Students in the Regular Classroom.
Demystifying Differentiation in Middle School would be a
close second choice to own. I would start with simple Tic
Tac Toe menus and scoring rubrics, and some RAFT projects.
Introduce them to everyone, and encourage everyone to push
themselves. Take time teaching the rubrics and expectations
    for high quality work.

Some gifted students may need more push than you expect--
sometimes by middle school they get used to coasting and
they aren't looking to go above and beyond. Other times,
you'll be surprised by the amazing ways they go beyond what
you ever dreamed someone could do with an assignment.
