    I agree that the schools are being held accountable for situations that
    they can't control.

    Alternative Learning Environment... Some schools use it for students who
    can't control their behavior in a normal classroom setting, pregnant
    students, students who are way below grade level, a GED class, etc

    I agree, but I also would add about the humiliation. We don't want to
    humiliate them by putting them in a class that we know is too hard. And
    we don't want to put them in a class, then give them 'special'
    assignments. That could be humiliating as well.

    I think we agree that there is no easy answer to help these students.
