I used to work at a school the was BIG into AR. What I found was that
the program ended up being misused because people got hung up into AR
points and percentages. The love of reading, for reading's sake,
disappeared. I could really tell you some stories. The whole thing was
sickening actually.
In, and of itself, AR is fine. It is a good way for teachers to manage
and monitor an independent/silent reading program. The problem occurs
when fools get all hung up on trying to implement behaviorism and
status recognition with the program.
