    Re: accelerated reader

I am so surprised how much negativity there is about AR. I
just got my state achievement test scores and 100% of my
students passed reading. I am in a suburban district and the
districts score was 89.5%. I teach sixth grade Language Arts to
my homeroom and three classes of math.I have kept statistics
that last two years and students on average make more than the
expected 9 month growth. This year there was an average of 17
months growth in eight months. I further broke down the class
into low, middle, and high readers in my statistics. My low
group classified as those with less than a fourth grade reading
level made greater growth than the average. It is part of my
language arts program and I did not offer incentives, but part
of their language arts score is determined on how many points
they read and their percents on tests. I use Cris Tovani's
books and Kylene Beers' for activities and teaching. On 7/05/08,
