    Re: using AR for reading grades is a mistake

    I'm sorry to hear the school will not listen. Rather than
    ask for permission to opt out, you could write the school a
    letter demanding it citing the detrimental effects of all
    the reasons you state in your post. If that gets you
    nowhere there is another alternative. This is rather drastic
    and I know I'll get heat for this but you can send a copy of
    the letter to the local newspaper editor. Sometimes the
    press shedding light on an issue brings change where a
    parent by themselves cannot. Good luck in your quest.
