    Re: Audio Books & AR

How about compromise? Can you suggest that the parent get
the book (public library, school library or class library)
and to follow along in the book with the audio version. Tell
parent that way child gets to see the sentence structure,
vocabulary words and other literary skills as they listen to
the story. Also suggest that at least one or two or three
books each quarter solely by the student and not be an audio
book. Again stress to the parent that the student can't
improve reading skills by always listening to the stories
    (vocab, fluency, structure....)

As for the level, as long as they are MG or middle grade
level books do not worry about the ZPD. You can print off a
list of books in the child's ZPD and have parent look over
    those titles.
