Re: 3rd. grader at Classic Level

i am hearing the words classic and honors reader for the first
time. Is this just a school designation? My daughter accumulated
over 1000 AR points in 3rd grade and received a school ribbon.
The next year she was punished with no recognition and told it
was unfair that the other kids couldn't keep up with her so
there would be no reward, no incentive to read beyond the
required points necessary for her grade level. Fortunately this
child is self motivated but her sister one grade level below
reads to keep up (not my motivated kid to read for the ove of
it!) and now has the chance to be top of the school since her
sister is moving to middle school and the school is taking away
the points calculation, not counting summer points etc...Again I
say why are we not worried about continuing to stimulate our
bright kids? Instead we punish them for excelling, complain that
they are hogging the computers and showing off etc...
