Hot off the presses: the November Teachers.Net Gazette....

Re: University of Phoenix
Posted by TCF on 5/12/07

Last July I got my BSIT and I am now making 3x the amount of income I was
before. My new employeer is a world wide company and is a great place to
work. However, UOP is something I will NEVER do again. I am now attending
grad school and I am paying far less and getting a much better education.
My wife worked for UOP and now that I know the inside scoop I am not sure
how I even got my degree sent to me.

The things that go on there go beyond a lack of respect for the students
and the entire system is only in place to make money. Now I understand
colleges that are "for profit", but the rise in fees went up a few times a
year in most areas. A lack of help from the staff was common.

Like anything there will always be students that never run into problems,
just like some people never get hurt playing sports, it just happens. The
school does have a name that many people still see as a good well known
college. This saved me after graduation. Why you ask did I finish? Well,
two reasons. 1) A just wanted to get done and I moved about 5 times in 3
years so the online classes just made sense. 2) It really would not have
done my wife much good at work if I went to a different college.

Each college will have trouble. Each college will have students that love
it and get a lot out of it. Each college will have students that did not
learn a thing and just had their money and time wasted.

UOP is ok if you go the extra mile and get lucky and have a teacher that
knows what they are talking about, not one that just reads from the same
book you are for the first time.

My current online classes are done by teachers that are real teachers.
They are to be cert. by the state they my college is in. Most of them are
    teachers at reg. colleges.

Much of the time at the UOP I did not learn much from each class. They
only ones I learned much in were programming because of the nature of the
classes being online was fine and my teachers really knew what they were
doing (they had to in order to grade our projects).

So I guess my points are; UOP cost way too much. The education really
depends on what classes you take and what teachers you get. If you put
more into it then you would have any other college you will get more out of
it. (and yes I went to the University of Iowa and University of FL).

Your life will not be over if you get a UOP degree, but there are better
ways I think. I know there are people out there that will rip on my little
rant (and yes I know for a fact people from UOP get paid to find these kind
of rants and talk up the school), but that is one great thing about the
world we live in, we can say how we feel and we all feel different.

    Remember one thing no matter what people think about any school;
Education, they can not take it away from you as long as you worked for it.
