Post: ATTN: Socially Progressive Teacher in NE Ohio

Do most of these quotes from Sonia Nieto resonate with you?
* I view teachers as transformative intellectuals
* teachers are enthusiastic lifelong learners who are deeply
involved in their work and who defend both their students'
right to an excellent education and their own rights as
intellectuals and professionals.
* these are difficult but also promising times for those who
view public education as the last and, in many cases, the
only hope for fulfilling our society's stated ideals of
democracy.
* addition, the new discourse has supported the "dumbing
down" of teachers, that is, the attempt to strip teachers of
their creativity and judgment by having them follow
repackaged curricula and prescribed pedagogical strategies.
I've met very few teachers who are intellectually engaged in
their practice. Even fewer who recognize our role in the
dominant hegemony. Nieto writes that what sustains
successful teachers is networking with other like-minded
teachers. Hence the reason for this post.
Let's talk, organize, and start returning a humanistic,
student-centric model to our pedagogy.
