Re: maybe the problem is that public schools suck...![]()

Really, Public Schools suck? Let us be honest here. My wife
is an elementary school teacher. She... I mean WE owe fifty
thousand dollars in student loans. For the privilage of
working at a public school she earns the handsome salary of
thirty thousand dollars a year! We did the math and she
works about two thousand two hundred and eighty hours a
year. The average full time employee (working forty hours a
week) works only two thousand and eighty hours a year. Yet,
She is paid significantly less than a your avergae
untrained/uneducated worker.
If anyone is to be blamed for the failings of public
education it is the incompetent overspoken citizens. No
school, church or business can please everyone. The very
thought that the teachers are to blame causes my blood
pressure to rise.
Why not raise the bar? Why not offer better total
compensation to our public employees. In return the citizens
can demand a higher level of service. Besides, class size
does affect a teachers ability to perform.
How long will it take for some people to realize the truth
behind the phrase, "You get what you pay for".
