Post: ELL Survey for ALL Teachers

    Posted by mstraws on 9/10/08

    Teachers,

I need your help to learn about how ALL teachers feel about
their ability to teach English language learners in their
classroom. You do NOT have to be an ELL/ESL teacher to
participate. My hope is that with these results we can
improve training for teaching these students in the future.
For more information and the survey url, please see below.

    Megan Strawsine

    ***********************************************************

My name is Megan Strawsine and I am a graduate student in
the School Psychology program at the University of Missouri.
I am in the process of collecting data for a study I am
leading, advised by Dr. Lisa Flores. If you are a mainstream
teacher, pre-service teacher in the United States and at
least 18 years old, or post-secondary educator (e.g.,
University professor, teaching assistant) I am requesting
your help by completing an online survey.

The project, Teaching English Language Learners Survey
(TELLS): Scale development and validation, will create a
formal way to measure how mainstream teachers feel about
teaching students whose primary language is not English.
Results of this research could lead to great benefits such
as improved teacher preparation programs and professional
development for teaching English Language Learners in the
    mainstream classroom.

The offer of an incentive of a $20 gift card to Barnes &
Noble will be given to five, randomly selected respondents
who have completed the survey. This survey will take
approximately 20 minutes to complete. Your participation is
completely voluntary and anonymous. Although unlikely, some
questions may make you feel uncomfortable. You may stop
participating at any time. You may skip or decide not to
answer any questions that make you feel uncomfortable.

Your responses are important and we hope that you will agree
to participate. However, you are under no obligation to
participate if you so choose. If you have questions
regarding your rights as a research participant, contact the
Campus Institutional Review Board at the University of
    Missouri-Columbia at (573) 882-9585.

If you are a mainstream teacher, college level educator, or
pre-service teacher (student teaching within the next year)
you can participate by following the link provided below.
