Thank you both for the response. Would either of you mind if I used your responses as part of my research. I have my own motivation "tricks," but it is nice to see what other teachers use to do the trick. The school-wide project is one I find most motivational so far. I also advertise art projects like they advertise movies...way in advance and brief previews. They get real excited. Competition works well, so my fourth grades are divided permanently into four teams. They compete all year on finishing projects and cleanup before the others. They do a few large team projects as well.
