Re: I don't dress up for Halloween!
i don't go all out, but i will do simple things like wear all blue
(jeans and a blue school t- shirt) or shirt inside out for drug
awareness week. i wore one of my college t-shirts last friday because
it was college spirit day. however, i don't see it as fitting in and
caving to peer pressure but rather as partaking in the spirit of the
occasion.
some of our teachers chose to dress up for halloween, although none of
ours wore outright costumes. for example, all the 2nd grade teachers
wore crazy, cool eyelashes (feathers, rhinestones, etc.) and halloween
socks, but that's really it. others wore halloween themed t- shirts or
long sleeved, fitted t-shirts. no big deal. some, like me, didn't do
anything special. nobody cares if you do or you don't. (i thought
the eyelashes were pretty cool, though.)
i myself wouldn't dress up in terms of planning it out, buying new
stuff, etc., but i don't see the big deal in wearing a school shirt on
spirit day, for example. it takes just as much time as putting on any
other shirt. i'm there to teach, too, but i'm also part of my school's
community, and the kids really enjoy it when they see the teachers
joining in. again, though, i don't go all out or anything. anytime i
do stuff like that, it's for the kids. i could care less, but they
like it. but i certainly don't think any teachers should have to or
feel pressured to dress up or wear certain things if they don't want
to.
