Re: Pains of Painting with K-2

Painting used to be a pain when I first started teaching 100
    years ago...well, almost. Here's how I do it. I use the 3oz
cups with lids (they look like the one salad dressing comes in
for take out). You can get them through Nasco. I have every 2
kids share colors. Sometimes I begin with 2 colors say blue
and white just to see how the class handles paint. You can
learn a lot from that. Six of these cups fit on one styro
tray. So if you need to pass out six colors, you put the tray
between the kids. I let kids have a brush for every color. I
also wash the brushes myself because #1 they don't get them
clean enough and #2 their art time is precious and I would
rather them have art than wash brushes. Kids get sponges to
wash the tables and I have large dry towels that I wash and
bring from home to dry the tables. Watercolors, not a big deal
but if you fill the water cups before the class comes it
helps. Also as you dump the painty water out, fill them with
water so you're all ready for the next class.
