Re: Listening to tapes while you sleep?---I vote myth....
Posted by Joyce on 10/02/04

I can't remember which college class I learned this in--
probably Psychology, but it seems we were taught it is a
myth. There are different sleep levels and different things
occurring in the body during these levels, and the best I
remember tapes were not shown to help the learning process
during sleep time because of the state of the brain at the
time. The brain is just not alert enough to really process
much, but instead is resting OR processing semi-conscious
things, usually related to our lives during the day. We did
learn that if one gets plenty of rest, more is remember from
what was studied during the day. A certain part of the sleep
cycle really kicks in to store the information acquired
during the waking part of the day.

It might not hurt to try listening to tapes during sleeptime--
but I wouldn't expect too much. And, I would think kids sleep
even deeper than adults, so I would think they would learn
    too much then, either.
