Re: Supplies

I was in the same boat as you last August. There I stood in the school supply store, with my state's "Sonny Money" gift card in hand (state gift card for teachers), wondering what to buy. My job was doubly challenging, because I knew I was working SPED inclusion, but not sure on grade level, subject, etc. What I bought: Grade book. Never needed it. The school keeps grades and attendance online. School bag. Tore up by December. Pull tote. Sits under my desk. The halls are too crowded to pull it back and forth. Hole puncher. Used it. Stapler. Used it. File folders. Used them. Sticky notes. Used them. What I WISH I'd bought: Sharpies. Pencils. TONS of pencils. Pens. Pencil grips. Toilet tissue (we issue it to kids on an as-needed basis, because our 9th graders like to clog toilets). Stickers. Generic tickets. Great for extra credit rewards. End of Course Test books in Algebra, Lit/Comp, Biology. For Georgia tests. It's also good to have a supply of copy paper, envelopes, etc. on hard. Our department head orders stuff for us, but the delivery is SOOOO slow. Our August order came in December. Our December order came in April. Good luck! :) On 5/16/08, MissPenny wrote: > JP, that was a great list you provided, and great advice for a > new teacher! > > On 5/16/08, jp wrote: >> There ARE supply closets...but not for anything good! >> >> I teach middle school social studies & always stock up on: >> colored pencils >> markers >> scissors >> glue >> glue sticks >> lunch bags (for various purposes) >> popscicle sticks (for masks & participation thingies) >> tape >> colored laser paper >> folders with 3 brads (for me and for students who lose theirs) >> 3 ring binders (ditto above) >> Thank you Notes (for teachers & students & parents) >> Birthday Cards (ditto above) >> sticky notes >> sticky flags >> poster board (but my school DOES provide plenty year round) >> transparency sheets (my school is stingy with these) >> kleenex (I have kids bring them for extra points too) >> sandwich bags (for saving work we have to cut up or >> games...all sizes are great!) >> >> At the beginning of the year I give a list of supplies the >> classroom could use.
