    Post: alternative licensing

    Posted by helen on 7/18/08

I have a BA Poli Sci from UNC-Chapel Hill - thought of law
school but choose the wife/stay at home mom route - which
I have never regretted. After 18 years of being fortunate
enough to not work, I re-entered the workforce as a fourth
grade Teacher's Asst. at our neighborhood school. I
realized quickly that I want to be a teacher. I could take
the lateral entry route - but I don't feel that I would be
the best possible teacher I could be without completing an
education program - thus I am currently enrolled in a
graduate program to get my licensure in middle grades
social studies and lang. arts - I am taking all of the
education classes first and even after two years of being
a very hands-on TA, I am amazed at all I am learning! Some
people can jump right in to the classroom - but for me, I
will go the old fashion route and get my education before
I try to provide one to my students.
