Posted by maxine on 9/05/08 If you want to be a teacher, hang in there. It will get better. You have a lot of on-the-job training to go through. New teachers rarely get the inspiration they need to survive and thrive in such a difficult job. People will pull you from all directions. Things to do: Find an older teacher who will act as a mentor. Plan fun activities for weekends that will give you something to look forward to. Get plenty of sleep. Focus on making your classes informative. Vary your activities, but make the transitions from activity to activity go smoothly. Don't worry about entertaining them, worry about doing your best to educate them. Good luck to you. I am now retired, but I still remember that impossible first year.
