Re: SHOULD I SHOW GRAPHIC MATERIAL TO HIGH SCHOOLERS?

Ask yourself, what is your instructional goal in showing
this kind of gratuitous violence to children? What is it you
want your students to actually learn? How is showing this
kind of stuff helping them learn and understand whatever it
is you are purporting to teach them? Anyone of sound mind
who is older than about 6 already knows that war is hell,
that war creates untimely and painful death to large numbers
of innocent people, and that war, and the cruelty that
inevitably springs from it, are nothing more than an
unfettered celebration of mankind's evil and bestial nature.
If I were a student in your class, I would simply walk out
of your so called 'lesson' and go sit in the principal's
office until next period. If the principal's secretary then
directed me to go back to class, I would refuse to comply
until I spoke personally with the principal, at which time I
would unload on him/her, after which he/she would come in
later on and unload on you. Then I would not show up for
school the next day.
