Re: SHOULD I SHOW GRAPHIC MATERIAL TO HIGH SCHOOLERS?

Well, my attempt is to ultimately have them think about social
issues and politics and encourage them to research these
things on their own as part of a project where they create
political posters for or against. I'm not really taking a stand
for or against anything, those choices are for them to decide
on there own. I am merely showing them, this is the way the
world is/has been. It's just a history timeline really.
I have some kids that have no idea what the holocaust was. I
think many times kids today are so caught up in there own
issues that they need to see others are dealing with or have
dealt with the same or worst. At any rate, I think I will leave
out the most graphic images like the boy who lost his leg so I
won't hear from parents or administration. Yet, I am planning
to show some images from vietnam ... the famous picture of
children running from napalm, Jews about to be hung during WW2
by nazis, civil rights images, some of the abu ghraib photos
like the man on the box ( probably the only one I can show from
that) ,toppling saddams statue in iraq, the aids quilt ,
ethiopian starvation, the famous victory kiss after ww2, etc.
My goal is just to get the kids to choose a topic that
interests them and think about the world in an enlightened way.
