Well, art crosses over into all subjects. I think high schoolers
should be aware of most of these images. My point about televison
and film is that these kids see similar images in the media, but they
are out of context. They go home after school and blow someone's head
off in a video game. My intent is not no much to shock, but I do
want to educate and create a discourse, that is what art is about. I
don't see much difference in showing some of these images , compared
to a visit to a holocaust museum, civil rights museum, or photo
journalism exhibit. It won't all be war images. it won't all be
violence. A lot of this stuff has been in the daily newspaper, so why
pretend it does not exist? I'd like to show the images combined with
images of art created after or along the same time to get them
thinking and from there, do their own research on the topics that
interest them and respond creatively. However, I will run it past a
supervisior and make sure I don't have anything in too disturbing. I
plan to tone it down more after reading the comments, so I don't
offend anyone.
