I think that because autism spectrum disorder runs the gamet
in terms of level of function, people may tend to forget the
higher functioning children and those with Aspberger's
Syndrome. Personally, in both of my internship placements
prior to my ST placement, I had one Aspberger's kid in each
classroom. Having worked with autistic children for several
years prior to this, I didn't really faze me. However, their
regular teachers seemed rather overwhelmed by their behavior
at times. One child would scream "mommy" at the top of his
lungs whenever he was upset in the classroom of 5th graders.
This did not go over well with the teacher or students, and
the para he was assigned didn't seem to have a clue what to do
with him. Otherwise on a curricular level, he did wonderfully.
I think this teacher definitely could benefit from any
    additional resources available.
