Okay, I'll admit it. While I get a lot out of "good literature," I also get a lot out of the fluffy stuff. Maybe just a smile and an escape, but that's important, too, I think.

I don't like most "chick lit," and I don't like romance. But I love Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books, and I love John Grisham's courtroom novels. I loved the Monk books, but I don't know if that's continuing. Suggestions for others?

mizletts I'm like Kathleen who promised herself some 'fun' reading after reading all the non-fiction for teaching books. I have enjoyed Patrick Taylor's books about a young country doctor in a small Irish village being mentored by the older doctor. I've also read about all the Andrew Greeley fiction. May he rest in peace.

judy5ca I'm enjoying the Inspector Banks series by British writer Peter Robinson. I'm also a fan of PD James (I think she died recently) and Elizabeth George.

In the category of light "beach reads": the Virgil Flowers
series by John Sanford and the Women's Murder Club series
(so far 1-13) by James Patterson.

Jme I don't like the Women's Mystery Club series. They strike. me as a group of gals deciding to "play sleuth," and I can't really take them seriously.

This week, while sick and out on snow days, I have been listening to Grace Livingston Hill books on librivox.org. They are simple books, and overly wholesome, but the heroines, while...See More
