Re: How do you handle biting?
Posted by t on 1/16/08

It's so common/normal for kids this age to bite, and there
are a number of reasons that she may be biting. When we
    have a biter we:
Try to give a lot of positive attention and activities.
This prevents boredom, frustration, etc. So, instead of
giving her free play engage her in an activity like a
    puzzle, or playing catch.
I think your center is right in not having time outs, biting
    back, etc.
Keep the punishment to looking her in the eye saying, "NO
BITE" firmly, and moving on to another activity.
Her pediatrician (or one you know) should have info. on
biting and how to prevent it.
If you follow her closely for a few days, giving her the
extra attention before problems occur, hopefully it will
    help. Good luck!
