How many hours a day are you teaching at the preschool?
Generally you will have children in your home 9 or 10 hrs. a
day. Just to do a little math, if you keep 2 children @
125.00 per week and you work 50 hours a week, that gives you
$5.00 an hour. I assume this is less than you are making at
the preschool. AND that $5.00 an hour is not really your
income - you have expenses, meals, taxes, etc, that all need
to come out of that amount. What is left over after you pay
all your expenses, upkeep, repair, and supplies - is the
money you actually have for income.

You also have lots of hours of planning, shopping, cleaning,
etc, that aren't included in that 50 hours a week.

People often look at the amount that child care providers
charge per child and think it sounds like SO much - but we
work a lot of hours and when you are actually in business,
there are a lot of expenses that come right off the top,
before you get to keep any of it.

So - - the way you can get your income up is to keep more
    children.

You will also have to follow the rules and regulations set
forth by your state to get your license. It might require
you to make many changes around your home.

Sometimes people have a hard time keeping their slots
filled. When your slots aren't filled, your income is
    short.

Sometimes people have difficulty working with parents and
    getting paid.

With all that said, I love what I do and do not want to do
anything else - even for more money. Each day is new and
different and the children and their enthusiasm for life and
learning is such a blessing every day. Lol - you say you are
a people person - are you a "little people" person? :) The
service we are giving to these children and their families is
invaluable and we have a profound impact on the futures of
    these precious children.
