I do like the idea of going around and collecting homework.
However, doing this 6 times a day in each different class is
really draining. If it is a larger assignment, sometimes I do
go around and have the students who don't hand it in sigh a
grade slip to acknowledge they didn't hand it in.
Plus if feels like down time. Even if you give the students
something to do, they feel if I'm walking around and talking,
they should be able to talk too.
My life gets better every year. I am going to work on some
kind of notebook for next year. I think it will work if I can
just get organized. Next year teachers will have websites at
our school. I am going to try and put all assignments on the
website so I can just tell students "get it from the
website". I am not at all sure I can keep up with that
though. I'll probably just do it for the one class I have
multiple sections of. Maybe it will be easier than I
imagine.
The things that work seem to be time consuming for me... I am
going to do bell ringers and call them "DO NOW" activities.
One at the beginning of each class and maybe in the middle of
class too. I didn't do them this year and feel more
frustrated. I like them, kids complain about them, and by the
end of the year we were all sick of them.... but they seem to
work.
I can't wait for summer where I can go and get myself
organized!
