Re: the way kids treat each other
Posted by MathMommy on 4/22/08

Our school uses a three-step classification system to categorize
offenses - class one offenses are the lowest level - class two
are middle of the road - and class three are the most severe.
Profanity and verbal abuse are both categorized as class two
offenses punishable by Saturday detention for the first
offense. When our school takes such a solid stance against
those behaviors, and since I have been instructed by the
principal to write referrals for other students who argued and
swore - how can I simply look the other way? Believe me, my gut
didn't want to write the referrals - especially for the slacker
boy who was verbally attacked and used the F word - but
precedent is already set by those in authority over me - I feel
obligated to follow school policy. One of my responders said he
could "defend myself" if someone turned him in for not writing
the referral. I guess I need to know how to defend myself.
