Re: How do we stop negativity in the classroom?
Posted by DarrenB. on 5/02/08

It's a daily struggle for me to decrease my personal exposure to
negative people. And it's a daily struggle for me to help
reduce the amount of negativity in my classroom brought in by my
    students.

I model positive behavior and attitude. I try to be as upbeat
and outgoing as possible. When a student says something
negative, I first remind them, "If it's not nice, don't say it."
I also spend time talking about "Just kidding!" at the
beginning of the year and call students on their teasing, even
    when they are "just kidding."

And if negative behavior continues by individual students, I
fall back on my class management system to try to stop that
behavior, the same way I would address a student not meeting any
    of my expectations.

This free video will help you manage your class and fall in love with teaching again!
