Post: lions, tigers and bears....oh my!!
Posted by sherill on 8/17/08
I'm going into my 2nd year of teaching and am finishing up
my ACP. I love my job and I love my kids to death!
I've spent my summer reading up on classroom management
techniques - Wong, PT, HD, whatever else is out there, and
I feel like I need to just make some decisions and go with
it. Or have I read enough?
I made up my procedures that I plan to use in my class. I
went to the principal suggesting that maybe all of the
middle school teachers should incorporate a just a few
(like headings on homeowrk papers) since we have so many
new students and a whole new set of MS teachers (we
doubled the 7th grade). He basically poo-poo'd it, that we
all have our individual styles and the kids know what to
expect from whom. This is making me rethink
my "procedures".... or at least the process of teaching
them as "procedures."
So, do I keep reading and trying to figure out what will
work best with my style or with my kids, or should I just
get out of the pool, dry off and get to work?
I remember feeling overwhelmed last year at this time,
because I basically knew nothing. I think I feel even more
overwhelmed this year because I DO know something now -
maybe too much? I just want to create the best enviornment
possible to promote success for my kids!
