    Sherill,

Would it help to compile a list of different things you like
about each of the approaches you're considering, then assign
values to each? After doing that, you could play around with
the higher scoring items, perhaps combining them in
different ways until you create something that gives you
that "YES!" feeling ... or at least that "Hmmm. This could
    work...(!)" feeling(:-).

The other thing to consider is that you can change and
continually improve your approach as you go. Even changing
approaches dramatically if you realize one isn't working IS
BETTER than sticking with the dysfunctional system. Kids
will appreciate your positive intentions, and your
willingness to be flexible for their benefit. 'The End of
the World' it will not be!

Best of luck, and enjoy the process!

    All my best,

    Tom
