    Re: First Day Report
    Posted by DL on 8/19/08

Well, I won't have them bring their instruments back until we
get basic classroom procedures down. I generally don't get bad
attitudes out of this group of kids. They are just super
sociable. But they do need to know that I will be doing things
    differently.

Like I said in the original post, it is surprising that a group
of kids that I have later in the day that were groups in a
class last year that was a NIGHTMARE seemed to appreciate the
structural changes I was making. They did everything I asked.

The mistake I made in the past was that I would give up on
things and move on. I was unknowingly expressing low
expectations. It may take some extra practice with the
returning students, but when they realize I am serious and they
change, then we will be ready to start playing instruments
    again.
