    The quiz grade should stand so that they start to understand
    the importance of their notes. And it would be a good idea to
    follow up with another quiz at some point on their notes to
    reinforce that. In the meantime, make a note of those
    students. Try and connect with them each day even if just for
    30 seconds. Pay attention to how they are paying attention
    next time you take notes. During work time take a few minutes
    to work with them on the scientific method if they still need it.
