If you are doing powerpoints, you could start with guided notes. Just select
the outline, not slide part of the show. Copy and paste it to a word
document. Then take out key words and/or phrases. Leave those areas blank
and give enough room for students to write down what is on the powerpoint.
We do that in our team (8th grade), and we gradually take out more and more
words, until students are writing down most of the notes themselves. By then
they will have also figured out how to shorten their phrases to just the key
