    Re: classroom rules
Posted by Kerry in BC on 9/08/08

Sorry Tia, I didn't mean to impy that it's only YOUR rules
that are vague.... I just meant that rules in general are
vague. I see nothing wrong with the ones you have
suggested. I was just trying to explain why I personally
don't find having a few posted expectations very useful.
To me, "expectations" are really an attitude on my part... I
actually DO expect them to follow. Procedures is what makes
it all fall into line in an orderly way.

For me, it works best to have just one expectation... that
students follow the procedures that I set up and teach. I
don't write that on the wall anywhere... I just simply
expect them to adhere to the routines that we have in the
classroom whether they involve safety, respect or materials.

I think that when students really sense that you do have high
expectations, they live up to them by following along with
whatever routines you ask them to do.

    Off to school!

    Kerr
