I circle the answers the kids got correct. And when the kids get
to correct each other's work in class, they learn a little
empathy for the other students as they look for things to find
correct with the assignment. While they use red pens/pencils, I
use green, so my students see a lot of green on their papers.
They do not grade the papers however, that is left to me. When I
see a who student did not fare well on an assignment, I write a
brief note to the student and his/her parents. The rest get a
sticker/stamp. Occassionally I target an assignment to give
students/parents feedback so I don't have to do it on every
assignment turned in. This works pretty well for me and the
students. The parents like seeing the positive side of things
too. Too often they see and hear about what their kids are doing
wrong, so it's a pleasant change to see what their kids are
doing right or what the have mastered.
