At the beginning of the academic year, briefly explain to the
parents, in writing, how you grade. I do use red, green, black
felt tip, etc., whatever color is available. I almost always
mark the correct answer unless I want the students to correct
the choice, such as in math. If the student gets a "second
chance" to answer, then he or she will earn partial credit.
But, I explain to the parents at the beginning of the term how
I grade papers. (One teacher writes R if the grade is
recorded; otherwise it's a practice. Another records whatever
he or she grades, and puts the number missed on practice.
