I feel for you.

Why is the consequence going straight to the principal? You
are sending the message to the students that you can't handle
them. They also get out of class. What happens to them when
they go to the principal? They may be playing you to get out
of class.

I think it would be a good idea for you to talk to them about
what is acceptable in school. When they are not acceptable,
there needs to be a fair and appropriate consequence. Not
all children who do that are sexually abused. I'm not saying
it isn't a possibility, but you need to be pretty sure to
walk on that slope.
