Hi Tarah,
I wish I could help. I was interested to hear that you have a
nurse. In our schools we haven't had school nurses for at
least 15+ years. Instead, we can call our public health
department and speak with a nurse who can answer our
questions. Students who are ill sit in the office while the
secretary calls parents/guardians to come and pick them up.
For scrapes etc. she dispenses bandaids and ice packs.
Our public health nurses also come to the school to run large
innoculation clinics (i.e. Hepatitis B shots for all Grade 7
students). They also train staff at the beginning of each
school year on how to administer an Epipen, if necessary.
Medications are dispensed by an Educational Assistant (after
obtaining parental consent).
You are fortunate to still have such readily available health
support.
