Re: Active Directory
Posted by ComputerGal on 9/30/07

I can see both sides on this as I've worked for 2 different
districts with different procedures. The first each student
had their own login although we were allowed a genric
account that the password changed several times a year. Kdg
and 1st grade were logged in with the generic by a teacher--
new students also until their account became available the
following week. Usernames were 5 letters of their last name
and first inital with the last 4 numbers of their student ID
#--this username stays with the student until they graduate
from HS. So it is worth their learning it. Their password
was gained through a district program that randomly
generated 4-6 letter words. This was changed yearly.
Second district does not use individual accounts for
students but each building tech could set up accounts for
students using Active Directory. Due to the time and
student turn over rate, I have not done this but there are
many times that I would love to have it set by the district
to do so. Difference in the district sizes and job
    responiblities.
I do like Deepfreeze. I didn't have it installed last year
and it makes a world of difference. It has ended many of my
    headaches in the lab.
