You want to walk the fine line between something that the students won't feel like they are punished for finishing early or something that is so good that the students who haven't yet finished rush through their work (or lie and say that they are done) to do. When I use Scholastic Keys, one of the features is MaxPaint so I will frequently have the students make a picture in that when they are done. KidPix is another alternative as well as Microsoft Paint. At my daughter's school they are permitte to go to certain "educational" websites such as coolmath.com when they are finished with their work. Sometimes, I will let certain students who finish early assist other students in the class with their questions. The rule is that they can only show them where things are, they are not to do the work for them. Another thing that I do is have the students practice typing using our tying software when they complete an activity.
