Re: Computer classes and younger students
Posted by EMD on 7/02/08
I currently teach computer skills to grades 1-5, but taught
them to kindergarten as well for 8 years. At all levels, I
believe in teaching word processing skills, beginning with
their name and the alphabet. Personally, I am not a big fan
of keyboarding and touch typing prior to at least third
grade. I do a great deal on the web at all levels. My website
has an Early Learning page which includes many links for
reading and math sites in addition to other topics. Some
favorites include Starfall and Rainforest Maths which has
activities for K-6. Scholastic has a page called Building
Language for Literacy which has a number of good activities.
First graders enjoyed listening to members of the Screen
Actors' Guild read at Story Line. Second graders wrote
acrostic poems for Valentine's Day. For science or social
studies topics for second grade and up, I often have a series
of questions for them to answer to keep their reading
focused
