I was reading over the posts on this and would like to throw
in my experience as well. I am the I/T Director at Ken Martin
School Supply and I have to been to numerous schools and
helped them upgrade technology, my findings are that the
sooner they start using it the better. For lower level
schools computers might not be the best way. I would suggest
for these classes to simply use one PC in the classroom and
then implement something like an AirSlate2 that will allow the
children to interact with the classroom computer but the
teacher will have the ability to supervise at all times, if
you run this along with a projector onto the screen then the
entire class can take turns operating the PC while the other
watch and learn. The AirSlate2 is easy to use, lightweight,
and durable for the kids to handle. Also with the younger
ages Student Response Systems such as the ConVa system is
changing everything. Instead of putting a computer in your
school for every student or every other student you can invest
in a SRS and basically have a interactive device for each
student. These give instant feedback to the teachers and if
you get someone to set it up that knows how to run it then it
can seamlessly integrate with your gradebook programs,
generate report cards and progress reports, log all activity,
the one I carry can even control all the other AV devices in
your room for you. SRS are changing teaching daily. However
I warn you all to beware and do your research on each product
before you decide to buy. Please feel free to email me any
questions you might have, I would love help get your school to
the cutting edge of technology for a fraction of the cost.
