For me, Wiki is a wonderful way to connect the home to
school. I have been using my PMWiki site for about 6
months. Just ask your tech department to download it to the
main server. Mine set up my passwords, and I took care of
the rest. It is very addictive because it is so much more
user friendly than any Web Page setup.
I can set up passwords for the pages I want to keep the same
like my biography. I can also open pages for students to
work on. This year I have students writing letters about
their reading using a page I set up for them. Each student
gets a page of their own that we will write back and forth.
Each student gets their own password. Then I also have
pages that need a password in order to see it, like my page
of student passwords.
Another great feature about the Wiki is that I have total
control. I don't have to wait for the tech department to
upload changes, and I can work on the Wiki from any
computer, even at home.
PMWiki also gives you tips and how to's so you can easily
get around to do most basic things, but it looks really good.
If you'd like to see my Wiki, go to
http://www2.sintonisd.net/staff/tbasaldua. Try clicking on
the edit button on the right to see which pages you can add
to and which are blocked. Oh, and you can even add video
and pictures with a little practice.
I hope this helps you to understand Wikis. I absolutely
love mine! If I can help at all, just email me.
